Friends of the Hamilton FREE Public Library
The Friends was founded in 1984 to:
- maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries;
- focus attention on and provide funds for library services, facilities, and needs;
- stimulate gifts of books, magazines, and other library materials;
- promote the library as a cultural, educational and recreational asset to the Township of Hamilton.
It is an all-volunteer run 501(c)(3) organization. An elected Executive Board of Officers directs the work of the Friends for two-year elected terms. Appointed task-oriented Directors and volunteer members carry out day-to-day activities with help from officers. Primarily raising donations through public book sales, the Friends provide the library with furniture, public computers, magazine racks, meeting room tables, chairs, handicapped-access door, e-books, the museum pass program, the movie program and several children’s programs including the summer reading program and more.
When the Library is open Daily Book Sales are held on most days, 10 am – 4:30 pm, on the Main Floor of the Hamilton Free Public Library. Prices start at only 10 cents, up to 25 cents for paperbacks, 50 cents and up for hardback and trade paperback books and other items. Huge book sales are held regularly throughout the year, usually bi-monthly. See the Huge Book Sales page for upcoming dates of sales of thousands of types of books, CDs, and DVDs, covering all genres, including children’s and teen materials.
In the past the Friends have hosted several free programs throughout the year of interest to the general public, such as Mike McGrath from WHYY’s You Bet Your Garden, Sherlock Holmes presentments, authors and more. These programs are held on the lower level of the Hamilton Free Public Library. Please see the Events page for information.
We offer many opportunities for community service. There are volunteer openings with the Friends of the Hamilton Library. Our committees include Fundraising, Sales, Hospitality, Audit, Restocking, Nominating, Publicity and more. Volunteers earn free books for hours logged!
